Lawmakers push to release Alamo Heights family from Dilley ICE facility

ICE agents showed up at a San Antonio school bus stop last week and detained a stepmom and her two young kids — a 5th grader and a 2nd grader from Cambridge Elementary in the Alamo Heights area — as their classmates watched. The family, originally from Venezuela and seeking asylum, ended up not at any immigration office, but at the Dilley family detention facility in South Texas, where reports of troubling conditions continue to mount. A habeas corpus petition has now been filed on behalf of the family, and U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro visited them this week, saying the children are "deeply traumatized."
