Final suspect sentenced in the killing of Simon Cuevas

Simon Cuevas was 14 when he was shot and killed walking home from school near Brewer Academy in April 2025. Five people were charged. One got 10 years in prison, two juveniles were sent to state custody, one died by suicide, and the last, 19-year-old Fernando Flores, was just sentenced to 10 years of deferred adjudication, meaning the case could be dismissed entirely if he stays out of trouble. For Simone's mom, Alejandra, that outcome hasn't brought closure.
