Bastrop County wildfire now 95 percent contained, 30 homes saved Fire burned 25 acres No description found
BASTROP COUNTY, Texas – Fire crews were able to quickly stop a wildfire this weekend in Bastrop County.
The Texas A&M Forest Service said the Royal Pines Fire burned approximately 25 acres and was 95 percent contained Sunday evening.
The fire broke out Saturday afternoon near Highway 71, forcing westbound lanes to be closed due to heavy smoke and to reduce traffic interference with firefighters.
Residents in 30 homes were evacuated Saturday but have since been allowed to return, the Bastrop County Office of Emergency Management said.
A photo taken by the forest service showed the fire line getting within just a few feet of a home.
Crews worked on Sunday to “improve fire lines and mop up hot spots.”
Bastrop County is no stranger to major fires. Since 2011, the county has battled two different fires that burned thousands of acres of lands, killed two people and destroyed more than 1,500 homes.
