SAN ANTONIO โ Every time he takes a shot, Joe is banking on an escape. โIt's calming,โ Joe said of basketball. โBasketball makes me think Iโm with them,โ Joe said. โI'd just tell them a little bit about my life story,โ Joe said. โI donโt record them or tell them to anybody because, like Anne Frank said, paper is more patient than man,โ Joe said.
Hope for a Home: Meet Lilly and Richard
They have big hearts for each other and perhaps even bigger smiles, but Richard, 7, and Lilly, 6, have been living in different foster homes since December 2017. โEven though Lilly is 6 and Richard is 7, Lilly takes care of Richard,โ Griffith said. I love Richard.โ And Richard (says) the same thing.โโRichard is all about Lilly,โ said Isabel Riley, Richardโs foster mother. Richard has ADHD and Lilly needs speech therapy. Both foster moms hope Lilly and Richard will find a forever home together.

CONVERSE, Texas โ Under the shade of a pavilion at a city park, Jeremiah, 15, whoโs entering his freshman year of high school, showed off his skateboarding skills. Jeremiah likes to be ready for anything any time he leaves the house. Jeremiah said heโs not any good, but he makes up moves as he goes -- similar to the way he likes to cook. Jeremiah recently moved in with a new foster father and brothers, and he cooked them scrambled eggs. Jeremiah has two sisters -- one of them his twin -- and one brother, who are also in foster care.

BOERNE, Texas โ On the banks of Cibolo Creek, 11-year-old Joe spent a summer morning doing something he loves: fishing. He let KSAT's Myra Arthur tag along on his trip, where they talked about his hope of one day being adopted. โNow you just gotta wait,โ Joe said after the bobber plopped in the water. โTaking me fishing, playing around, throwing the football around with me, going to a game,โ Joe said. Joe hopes being surrounded by a loving family could help him through those tough times.

SAN ANTONIO โ Ruben and Roy are close in age and close in life. Heโs my little brother, and when I see him, he just makes me happy,โ said Roy. Roy, 15, and Ruben, 13, are currently in foster care. If I brought some of them out here, I don't want to brag because I don't brag about myself," Caroline said. At 15, Caroline said she's ready to be adopted and she's upfront about the challenges she's faced.

It introduces viewers to kids who, every day, hope someone out there will find room for them in their homes and hearts. Meet 15-year-old ErikErik takes playing cards with him wherever he goes. He remembers playing cards with his aunt using laundry detergent bottle caps like poker chips. โMe, my mom and my older sister, we were always out on the street,โ Erik said. Now in foster care, Erik has big goals -- even though the deck may have once been stacked against him.

Underneath his confident, infectious, bright smile- and an equally bright and cheerful pink button down shirt- Javantae said he was nervous. โJust to get out of foster care.โOur interview- and the purpose of the โHope for a Homeโ series- isnโt about how Javantae or the thousands of kids in Texas foster care got to where they are today. Javantae wants people to know three things about him. Javantae says the foster care staff members he works with are nice.
