SAN ANTONIO – It’s art imitating art.

A new South Side art installation inspired by Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama’s new partnership with Louis Vuitton is also channeling another famous art installation — Prada Marfa.

For those not in the know, Prada Marfa, is a “pop architectural land art project” created by artists Michael Elmgreen and Ingar Dragset. It sits in the middle of a desert about 40 miles west of Marfa.

Last week, Louis Vuitton unveiled the first billboard featuring Wembanyama as its newest ambassador.

Over the weekend, a miniature Louis Vuitton store replica popped up near the intersection of South Flores Street and East Lambert Street. The window on the door of the structure features an image of Wembanyama in Louis Vuitton clothes. The windows have stickers with the hashtags #SouthtownCulture and #SouthtownSATX.

KSAT has learned that local artist Andy Benavides created the piece to promote the Southtown Arts District. Muralist Chris Montoya painted the design on the building.

“It was a one day project,” Montoya said. “Andy wanted it to have an immediate effect so he had the idea, called me at the later end of the day, and asked if I could paint the work.”
