Police say man attacked cousin with machete during booze-fueled fight

Victim, 55, cut on head, body

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police have arrested a man who they say attacked his cousin with a machete early Wednesday morning inside an apartment just southwest of downtown.

They say the 45-year-old suspect and his cousin had been up all night drinking before things took a violent turn.

Police said he picked up a machete and “hacked away” at his 55-year-old cousin, slashing him on the head and body.

Officers who responded to a call for help around 4:30 a.m. found both men at the apartment, located behind a house in the 900 block of W. Malone Avenue.

They also found the weapon there and took possession of it.

Police said one saving grace is that the blade on the machete was somewhat dull. Had it been sharper, the victim’s injuries would have been worse, they said.

The injured man was taken to a hospital by ambulance. The suspect, who also suffered some minor injuries, was taken to jail.
