San Antonio-built Tundra returned with 1 million miles

Vehicle owner traveled 125,000 miles per year

SAN ANTONIO – One of the first Toyota Tundras to roll off the assembly line in San Antonio back in 2007 has returned to its roots with a million more miles on it.

Victor Sheppard bought one of the first Tundras built in the Alamo City nine years ago.

Since then, he has driven nearly 125,000 miles per year.

When he passed the 1 million mile mark, the automaker offered to swap out his old truck for a new one.

"When we heard about it, we wanted to get that truck back, so we could take it apart piece by piece and research it,” Melissa Sparks with Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas said. “(We wanted to) see what made that quality so excellent so we could duplicate that in our future trucks."

Sheppard said he would have continued to drive the truck but Toyota does not recommend driving Tundras past 1 million miles.
