He'll play the title role of Dock Ellis, an outspoken pitcher best known for claiming he was high on LSD when he threw a no-hitter back in 1970.
Ellis played for the New York Yankees, Oakland Athletics, Texas Rangers, New York Mets and Pittsburgh Pirates during his decade-long career.
Following his retirement Ellis admitted that he never pitched a game sober. A winner of multiple games in the World Series, Ellis stood up to racism in baseball before eventually struggling with drug abuse.
At this time the new movie does not have a director and a scheduled release date is not known.
