General Position Description:
KSAT12 News is looking for a journalist to join our team as an Assignments Editor/Web Editor. We're looking for someone with a sense of urgency, who's highly organized, passionate about local news, and who understands the growing demands for information in a multi-platform world. The ideal candidate will work effectively with news managers, producers, reporters and editors to create content for our top-rated newscasts, our news website and our social media platforms.
Responsibilities:
Assist Assignments Manager, Assignments Editor and Newscast Producers with news gathering for broadcast, online and social media platforms;
Answer phones, monitor police radios, make beat checks, set up news stories and dispatch crews in a timely manner;
Produce content for station websites and social media in a fast-paced, breaking news environment
Write original stories based on station newsgathering;
Participate in the newsgathering process, including news editorial meetings;
Copy-edit stories written by the station staff;
Gather and compile content from station news gathering, including stories, videos and pictures to populate the station website;
Work closely with Producers, Assignment Desk Personnel and news managers;
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum of one year experience working for a television news station, daily newspaper or in an on-line news environment preferred.
Knowledge of AP style, social media tools, image-editing software a plus.
Strong writing skills, sound editorial judgment and highly developed digital skills.
Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
Must have excellent people skills, communication skills and possess a positive attitude.
Ability to juggle numerous projects at once in a fast-paced environment with daily deadlines and changing priorities.
Must be able to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends and holidays.
College degree in journalism or related field preferred.
