Man sentenced to 6 years in drunken driving death

Victim's daughter breaks down during trial

SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio man has been sentenced to six years in prison in the intoxication manslaughter death of a 66-year-old man.

In addition to his time in prison, Maycott will be assessed a $10,000 fine.

Carolina Garcia was just one week away from her dream wedding in Mexico the night her father Manuel Trujillo, 66, was killed when a drunk driver crashed into his mini-van.

"He was supposed to walk me down aisle," Garcia sobbed, as she testified in the punishment phase of Maycott's trial.

Maycott, 25, plead guilty to intoxication manslaughter charges.

He testified that he was returning home from a night at a gentlemen's club on Dec. 22, 2007. He said he'd had eight or nine beers that night.

Prosecutors said Maycott's blood alcohol level was 0.15 nearly two hours after the crash.

Maycott's pickup veered across the center line in the 12200 block of Loop 1604 and hit Trujillo's vehicle head-on.

"I know that there is nothing I can to do bring back your loved one," Maycott testified. "I'm sorry from the bottom of my heart and pray that God will give you peace."

He concluded his testimony saying, "There is only one word that describes my behavior that night - pathetic."
