AUSTIN, Texas – A power outage left most of downtown Austin in the dark Saturday night including the city's popular Sixth Street.
The outage affected street lights, bars and restaurants. Many businesses were forced to close early sending throngs of confused customers out into the streets.
One bar patron said, "the lights went off, everyone panics. It's pandemonium in there."
Austin Police say they sent in extra officers to help keep order during the outage. They report no serious problems.
Austin Energy dispatched crews underground to sort out the problem but said it could be weeks before the cause is known. The utility says the outage affected a grid from Congress Ave. to Red River and Fifth Street to Twelfth Street.
