SAN ANTONIO – CPS Energy will test its emergency alert system Thursday, Feb. 23.
The system was put in place last year to notify customers of major or system-wide outages and energy emergencies, like severe storms or extreme temperatures.
This marks the second time CPS Energy has tested its emergency alert system.
The inaugural alert was issued in May 2011.
The notification will be sent out Thursday afternoon to all of the utility's residential and commercial electric customers by phone, e-mail, and text message.
Customers who currently pay their CPS Energy bills online can choose which method they prefer at www.cpsenergy.com.
All other customers should call 210-353-2255. Customers may also elect to opt out of the system.
It is important to note that customers who do opt out would not receive direct and timely notifications should an emergency occur.
