Unclean utensils, moldy food lead to failing scores
El Milagrito, Taqueria El Tapatio De Jalisco fail inspection
Two Mexican restaurants flunked their recent health inspections with several violations including mold on food and unclean utensils.
El Milagrito on East Woodlawn near Trinity University failed THEIR inspection with 41 demerits. Their violations included:
The inspector says employees weren't using proper hand washing procedures before handling food.
No soap or paper towels at all sinks.
No hot water at one sink.
The inspector found unclean utensils being stored with clean kitchen ware.
The manager tells KSAT Behind the Kitchen Door the inspector came at closing time during kitchen renovations. He says everything is OK now and they're waiting for the inspector to come back.
Taqueria El Tapatio De Jalisco on Roosevelt just received a poor score of 34 demerits. Their violations included:
The inspector told the staff to throw out moldy lemons and peppers.
They were asked to eliminate flies in the kitchen and food prep area and properly clean dishes and utensils to remove food debris.
They needed a working mop sink and were warned to stop thawing meat in the mop sink inside the building.
KSAT's Behind the Kitchen Door called the restaurant twice but the staff hung up. Several of the violations were reportedly corrected during the initial inspection.
