A fiery crash has taken the life of a driver and shut down parts of Loop 410 on the Northwest Side.
San Antonio police received a call about the fiery wreck just before 4 a.m. Wednesday on Loop 410 west under the Interstate 10 flyover near Fredericksburg Road.
An officer responded and said the truck struck a pillar, ruptured the fuel tank and became engulfed in flames. The fire consumed the cab and spread to the rest of the truck, and across all highway lanes. The driver was found dead in the cab a short time later.
San Antonio police said the cab of the truck belongs to a private contractor while the back section belongs to FedEx.
Police continue to investigate what caused the crash, but witnesses saw the driver swerving as if he was falling asleep. TxDOT officials were also called to the scene to inspect the charred pillar.
The main lanes of 410 West in the area of the accident have been shut down as well as any loops from I-10 to Loop 410 West.
