SAPD: Woman holding baby uses sob story to pickpocket victim

Savanna Jones, 22, charged with theft, credit card abuse

A 22-year-old woman identified as Savannah Jones has been arrested in connection with a case involving a woman who said she lost her wallet, cash and credit cards to a pickpocket.

The woman, who was visiting San Antonio from out of town, told police she was having dinner with her family in a restaurant on March 5 when another woman sat down near them.

She said that woman drank several shots of tequila, then struck up a conversation, telling how her boyfriend had dropped her off and left, an arrest warrant affidavit stated.

The affidavit stated that the woman, later identified as Jones, was holding a baby at the time.

The affidavit stated that the victim offered to hold Jones' baby while she searched her pockets for money to pay her tab.

She told police she also offered to pay for Jones' drinks.

However, after Jones left the restaurant, the victim was unable to find her wallet, the affidavit stated.

Detectives said they obtained surveillance video showing Jones later using the victim's credit cards at two businesses.

They said Jones also admitted that she stole the woman's wallet, used the credit cards and spent about $200 in cash that was inside the wallet, the affidavit stated.

The affidavit stated that Jones told them she committed the crimes because she has a drug problem, the affidavit stated.

She was arrested Wednesday on charges of theft and credit card abuse.
