A 31-year-old man has been arrested after San Antonio police said they discovered a stolen and phony check and identity card operation in the bedroom of a North Side home.
Derek Andrew Harden is charged with fraudulent use of ID and tampering with government documents.
An arrest warrant affidavit stated that police were acting on a tip when they, along with a U.S. Postal inspection Service worker and agents with the South Texas Regional Task Force, went to the home in the 300 block of Barbara Drive on May 14.
The affidavit stated that the informant had visited the home previously, and told investigators about items seen in a bedroom.
Police said they found both stolen and phony checks, credit cards, bank statements and ID cards in that room, and seized two laptop computers, the affidavit stated.
They believe some of the items were stolen from the mail. The affidavit stated that the homeowner told them Harden occupies that room and had moved into her home recently.
Police also interviewed Harden at the time, but official charges were filed against him Wednesday.
