SAN ANTONIO – A man being treated at Laurel Ridge Treatment Center was struck and killed by a truck on the far North Side Tuesday morning.
Laurel Ridge is a psychiatric hospital in the 17700 block of Corporate Woods Drive, just east of Redland Road.
A San Antonio police spokesman said the male patient -- identified Tuesday afternoon as David Hartley Jr., 29 -- was being uncooperative with paramedics, who were there to treat his medical condition.
Around 9 a.m., paramedics were attempting to strap him to a gurney and load him into an ambulance, when he broke free and fled across Loop 1604.
The SAPD spokesman said Hartley cleared the westbound lanes of 1604, but was struck by a truck heading east.
The driver of the truck stopped to help, and the SAPD spokesman said he will likely not be charged.
The eastbound lanes of Loop 1604 were closed while accident investigators worked to clear the scene.
