Scorpions win NASL championship over Fort Lauderdale, 2-1

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Scorpions took down the Fort Lauderdale Strikers Saturday in the 2014 Soccer Bowl.

The Scorpions won 2-1 over the Strikers at Toyota Field to win the North American Soccer League championship.

San Antonio entered the titled match having beaten the defending NASL champion New York Cosmos two weeks in a row. The last win came last week in the Championship Semifinals as the Scorpions won 2-1. 

Fort Lauderdale entered the game on an 8-game winning streak, with the last match against favored Minnesota FC. The Strikers won 5-4 on penalty kicks.

The last match between San Antonio and Fort Lauderdale came on Aug. 29 when the Strikers took down the Scorpions at home, 2-0.

The Scorpions finished the spring season with a combined 5-2-2 record.
