CPS offers weatherization assistance to lower monthly bills

Hundreds apply for Casa Verde Program Saturday

SAN ANTONIO – With the chilly temperatures outside over the weekend, many are having trouble keeping warm indoors.

On Saturday, several hundred people showed up to CPS Energy's Community Programs Fair at South San High School to find out how they could keep warm and save money on their monthly bills.

CPS Energy representatives were on hand to answer questions and to help people apply for the Casa Verde Program.

Case Verde is CPS Energy's residential weatherization assistance program. It is designed to help families lower their utility bills by getting free weatherization work done to their homes, making them more energy-efficient.

Through the program, residents can get up to $5,000 in weatherization if they qualify.

"Right now, with this arctic blast that we are having, it's very cold and customers may start noticing that their home is pretty drafty and the cold is getting into the home," said Jessie Hernandez with CPS Energy. "So if they do have a home that is drafty and if they qualify from an income perspective, then they can take advantage of our weatherization program."

Hernandez said after Saturday's event, they are processing over 120 applications.

He said customers who qualify will see their bills go down on average of about $25 to $75 a month.
