BULVERDE, Texas – On the eve of the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo's famous western heritage cattle drive through downtown, one local restaurant boasts of showing its cowboy spirit year round.
Tejas Rodeo Company is its own western town in Bulverde, with a steakhouse filled with good food and western memorabilia.
It's a private collection belonging to Trey Martin that represents relics from the mid 1800s to the early 1900s.
"My father and I have been collecting this stuff forever," said Martin, the co-owner of Tejas Rodeo Company.
One of the features is the antique firearms that line the walls. Martin is particularly proud of one hanging over the bar above a western painting of Judge Roy Bean holding the same rifle.
"That's a 1866 Winchester. They call that the 'Yellowboy.' The Winchester was manufactured in 1870. We have other things like that, but that's one of the rarest, " he said.
Steakhouse regulars like Clayton Fox are big believers in the award-winning food at the restaurant -- and the décor.
"The authenticity of it, the arrowheads, it's Texas. You can't walk in here and not know you're in Texas," he said.
There are also antique saddles and chaps worn by cowboys long gone.
"Some of them are Maker Mark, which makes them even more collectable, like the handmade Pendleton, Oregon, a famous saddle-maker. We have all different kinds: the batwing, the shotgun, the wooly type chaps that they used up north. We've got a sample of all of it, " said Martin.
