SAN ANTONIO – Joseph Ortega, 20, is accused of walking into the home of an 82-year-old North Side woman Sunday and beating her over the head until she was bloody.
According to an arrest affidavit, a video from a neighbor's surveillance camera allowed San Antonio police to arrested Ortega 3.5 hours after the attack happened.
The affidavit stated the victim was hit in the head with a wooden object, pieces of which were scattered at the scene when police arrived.
The woman was taken to a hospital by ambulance for treatment.
Officers said the door of the home, in the 1400 block of W. Lynwood, was closed but had been left unlocked.
They said a neighbor's surveillance camera captured images of a man with curly hair and khaki colored pants entering the home.
Police were able to put out a description of the suspect, based on the video. They then took Ortega into custody about three blocks from the crime scene.
The affidavit stated that at the time of his arrest, he was wearing the same clothing as the man in the video, and he had blood on his clothing and shoes but wasn't able to explain why.
It is not yet known if Ortega and the elderly woman knew each other.
He was booked into the Bexar County jail on a charge of burglary with the intent to commit assault.
