SAN ANTONIO – Police inspected several apartment units, made arrests and confiscated drugs Tuesday at the Garden Village apartments at 236 Deerwood Drive.
The inspection was part of an ongoing effort of the city's Dangerous Assessment Response Team, or DART.
DART combines the efforts of the city attorney's office, code enforcement and the San Antonio police and fire departments.
"The whole idea is to go into an area where there are problems and say ‘how do we solve this?' What things can we do," said District 10 City Councilman Mike Gallagher, whose district includes Garden Village.
On Tuesday, SAPD arrested two people on drug charges at the complex.
"Its been known for squatters, people that are homeless have been breaking and entering," said SAPD Sgt. Pat Michalec. "We've had prostitution calls out here, we've had wanted people, robberies and murder."
According to the city attorney's office, the property owner was notified months ago to repair multiple code violations.
"The city really has not been satisfied with the progress made in that area," Gallagher said. "So they did another raid today, and in the process of that, a lot of problems got identified."
"We were not here to kick in any doors," said Michalec. "We were just here to make sure there were not any disturbances and the DART team was safe during their inspection."
The city could file a lawsuit against the property owner or force the complex to shut down.
The Bexar Appraisal District lists the owner as 236 Deerwood LLC.
Prior to the arrival of SAPD at the complex, the Bexar County Sheriff's Office arrested two people at Garden Village on Tuesday.
Brandon Coleman, 27, was arrested on an outstanding warrant for evading arrest and Deveon Taylor-White, 18, was arrested on a charge of burglary of a habitation.
