Paula Gold-Williams biography

Gold-Williams is president, CEO of CPS Energy

On July 25, 2016, Paula Gold-Williams was unanimously voted in by CPS Energy’s Board of Trustees as the new President & Chief Executive Officer, now leading its more than 3,000 team members into a new age of energy solutions.

Paula also held other leadership positions in San Antonio, including Regional Controller for Time Warner for approximately eight years and the Vice President (VP) of Finance for Luby’s, Inc. before coming to CPS Energy in late 2004.

Paula served as CPS Energy’s Controller & Assistant Treasurer from 2004 through 2006 before being promoted to the position of VP & Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) – Organizational Excellence & Shared Services in November of 2006. On February 1, 2008, Paula returned to the Financial Services Business Area to become CPS Energy’s Executive Vice President (EVP), Chief Financial Officer (CFO) & Treasurer.

After 10 years of dedicated service and consistently progressive professional growth with CPS Energy, Paula was promoted to Group EVP – Financial & Administrative Services, CFO & Treasurer. In that role, Paula continued to oversee all enterprise financial functions, while taking on the strategic oversight for People & Culture, Enterprise Safety & Health, Supply Chain, Facilities, Enterprise Information Technology and Physical & Cyber Security.

Relative to governance, Paula is the Chair of the company’s Energy Portfolio Strategic Committee (EPSC), as well as two committees that oversee direct and nuclear decommissioning investments. She is a member of the Oversight Committee (OC) that provides high-level leadership over CPS Energy’s Employee Benefits Trusts, which include the pension, health, life and disability plans. Membership for this committee also includes the Board of Trustees (BOT) Audit Committee and the President & CEO.

Externally, Paula serves as Chair on the Advisory Committee of Executives (ACE) for the St. Mary’s University School of Business, her undergraduate alma mater. Paula recently joined the Board of The University of the Incarnate Word (UIW). She is on the Board of San Antonio’s public television station, KLRN, including holding a post on its Executive Committee and serving as its Board Treasurer. Paula also serves as Advisory Trustees to both the Southwest Research Institute (SwRI), an internationally recognized center of excellence in applied research and development, as well as FM Global, an international mutual insurance company. She is also a member to the San Antonio Medical Foundation.

In 2015, she was announced as an honoree of the San Antonio Women’s Chamber of Commerce (SAWCC). Paula was also appointed as an Honorary Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) Commander in 2014; San Antonio is often referred to as Military City USA, reflecting our community’s long-term, solid support of our country’s Armed Forces. In recent years, she also received Best CFO and Finance awards from the San Antonio Business Journal (SABJ) and La Prensa, respectively. Additionally, Paula mentors numerous people inside and outside of CPS Energy. In addition to college students, her mentees include vice presidents, directors, managers, professionals and hourly team members.

Paula has an Associate Degree in Fine Arts from San Antonio College. She has a BBA in Accounting from St. Mary’s University, also located in San Antonio,as well as a Finance & Accounting MBA from Regis University in Denver, Colorado. She became a Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) while working for her first professional employer, the then Big 8 accounting firm of Ernst & Whinney.

Paula is married and has two daughters.
