Flores was officially pronounced dead about 2:45 a.m. He was checked on 15 minutes earlier and made no complaint of illness or injury.
Judge Steven Kennedy ordered an autopsy be performed on the body.
The cell where Flores was confined was placed under lock to preserve the scene for further inspection. Texas Rangers were notified and have been investigating.
Flores had been sentenced to 14 years after pleading guilty to charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the death of Christoval Lee Garza in 2014, the sheriff’s office said.
