'Machete' star Danny Trejo in SA to talk about recovery from drugs, alcohol

Trejo is keynote speaker at Alpha Home's annual fundraiser

SAN ANTONIO – Film and television star Danny Trejo is in the Alamo City today to give a speech about his journey of recovery from alcohol and drug addiction.

Trejo, best known for his roles in “Machete” and “Desperado,” will be the keynote speaker at Alpha Home’s 11th Annual Doorways of Hope luncheon fundraiser.

Trejo has starred in over 250 film and television roles, but his life changed after he spent more than a decade in and out of jail.

Trejo was imprisoned for various drug and armed robbery offenses.

He turned his life around after completing a 12-step rehabilitation program and becoming a champion boxer while serving in San Quentin Prison in California.

He is now 48 years sober and has developed a successful career in the entertainment industry.

Trejo is also an intervention counselor and often speaks to young people about battling addiction.
