Elementary school percussionists drum up Spurs spirit

Percussion group makes video to support their favorite team

SAN ANTONIO – Spurs spirit is so palpable in San Antonio right now. In fact, you can almost hear the beat of a “Go Spurs Go” chant everywhere you go. And if you pay a visit to Roan Forest Elementary school, you can definitely hear it coming from their music room.

The select percussion group -- “Sonido” -- created a video to show their support for their favorite NBA team.

Sonido is made up of 38 fourth and fifth grade students who had to audition for a spot in the group. They rehearsed all through the spring semester and recently put on a stellar performance, according to music specialist, Matthew Trevino, who directs the group along with Amanda Pawelek.

“We were recently selected to perform at a National Conference in November. We are still waiting on more information about that, but the students are very hard workers and phenomenal young musicians,” Trevino said.
