TDCJ correctional officer accused of assaulting girlfriend, refusing to let her dial 911

Christopher Contreras, 31, faces 2 misdemeanor charges

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – A correctional officer with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice was arrested on misdemeanor charges early Friday, after Bexar County Sheriff's Office deputies said he assaulted a woman inside a home in southwest Bexar County.

Christopher Contreras, 31, is accused of striking his girlfriend and taking away her phone inside a home in the 12200 block of Fish Hook as she attempted to dial 911, according to preliminary details of his arrest.

Contreras was taken into custody just before 1 a.m., according to Bexar County district clerk records. He faces misdemeanor charges of family assault and interfering with an emergency phone call.

A TDCJ spokesman confirmed Friday that Contreras is a correctional officer assigned to the Torres Unit in Hondo and has worked for TDCJ since 2007.

Contreras' employment is now pending the outcome of an investigation and he is not allowed on TDCJ property, according to the spokesman.
