Houston-area man shot in drive-by with 6-year-old in car

Police believe victim was targeted

HOUSTON – Houston-area police are investigating after a man was critically injured during a drive-by shooting Tuesday night around 8 p.m.

A 6-year-old child was in the front seat at the time of the shooting, police said. The child was not hurt, but was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Police said they believe the man was targeted in the shooting, which happened in the 6100 block of Moss Oaks Drive.

"He was bleeding out, and I heard the baby crying, so I just looked in the car to make sure everybody was OK and I called 911. And they were, like, 'Make sure he has a pulse or something like that,'" witness Laporsche Calhoun said.

The man who was shot crashed his vehicle into a fire hydrant after the shooting.

He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

There is no further information about the person or the vehicle at this time.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
