Spriester Sessions: San Antonio doctor, NFL trainer talk concussions, sports safety
SAN ANTONIO – KSAT’s Steve Spriester is joined by Dr. Evan Ratner, a San Antonio-based emergency doctor, and longtime NFL trainer Bay Bay McLinton for a live discussion on the topics of concussions and sports safety in general.
Their conversation kicks off at 2:30 p.m. It will also be simulcast on KSAT's official Facebook page.
You can join the conversation by asking questions there or in the comments below. Spriester will pose the conversations to Ratner and McLinton, who will answer them in real time.
NFL star shares experience with concussions
This live chat comes on the heels of Spriester’s conversation with retired NFL — and San Antonio native — Priest Holmes last week to talk about life after a career playing the high-impact sport.
Holmes told Spriester that nerve damage sometimes makes it hard to walk, and that degenerative joint and disc disease and numerous concussions also have taken a toll. He said he remembers his final game and a concussion so bad he felt like he was “running on clouds.”
Holmes said he is also worried about what his injuries, including the numerous concussions he said he suffered, may cost him later in life.
“It’s very difficult for me to tell someone not to invest their time and resources into the game, but there definitely is a price that you will pay by playing in the NFL,” he said.
