SAPD: Woman cut heroin in hospital room as 8-year-old son watched

Elizabeth Borrego arrested on felony drug charges Thursday

SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio woman is accused of mixing heroin with a patient at a Southeast Side hospital while her 8-year-old son was with them in the room, according to an incident report obtained by KSAT 12 News.

Elizabeth Borrego was arrested early Thursday morning on drug paraphernalia and felony drug possession charges.

Mission Trails Baptist Hospital staff told police they walked into a patient's room to find Borrego and the patient surrounded by drug paraphernalia.

Borrego and a staff member then struggled over a paper in Borrego's hand that contained heroin, according to the report.

Some of the drugs were then lost in a "cloud of powdered mess," the report said.

Investigators said Borrego's son was in the room as Borrego and the patient used a small blender to mix heroin with a white powder to add weight to the drugs.

The male patient, who was not identified in the report, had recently been jailed on a felony drug possession charge, according to San Antonio police.

The report does not indicate whether he will face charges.

A glass pipe used to smoke methamphetamine or crack cocaine was recovered from the patient's shorts, the report said.

Police said the child was taken a children's shelter, where staff members would then contact Child Protective Services.
