SAN ANTONIO – Mr. Snoop D-O-double-G may have paid San Antonio a visit Wednesday night for his last-minute concert, but it’s the surprise appearance he made for a local youth football team, the SA Outlaws, that will be remembered for a lifetime.

On Wednesday, Smoke BBQ Brew Venue hosted the 12-and-under Outlaws squad as way to congratulate and support the team after they won the National Championship in San Jose, California, just last week.

Coincidentally enough, the young Outlaws defeated Snoop’s Carson Colts team in his Snoop Youth Football League, also known as the SYFL.

Because Snoop Dogg announced on Dec. 11 that he was headed to various cities in the Southwest, which included the Alamo City, Adrian Martinez, owner of Smoke, decided to give the kids an extra treat to go with their smoked meats and unlimited sides.

“We have been fortunate to have several celebrities come our way. Next to Cedric the Entertainer, Snoop is a class act. He was extremely friendly and took the time to address the crowd,” Martinez told KSAT.com.

With the help of Snoop’s manager, Martinez was able to bring in the West Coast rapper for dinner and to speak to the kids after his concert at the Aztec Theatre.

Located at the edge of downtown on East Commerce Street, Martinez told KSAT.com his BBQ joint is always excited to be giving back to the community, especially when it involves the local youth.

“Smoke is always excited to work with non-profits, especially with those working with kids and promoting growth on the East Side of San Antonio,” Martinez told KSAT.com. “We welcome the opportunity to work with other organizations and look forward to receiving inquiries."

While many may have jam-packed the Aztec to enjoy a performance by one of hip-hop’s greatest rappers to ever live, Snoop Dogg made sure he left a lasting impact on the kids by congratulating the young football stars on their successful season.

The SA Outlaws football team is also recognized nationally for their appearances on the reality TV show, “Friday Night Tykes.”
