South Side home had gambling machines in almost every room, police say

Illegal operation discovered overnight after shooting call

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police say they found illegal eight-liner gambling machines inside every room of a South Side home except the bathrooms.

Officers discovered the illegal gambling operation after 1 a.m. Friday while answering a call about a shooting with multiple victims.

According to detectives, those officers kicked in the door of the home, located in the 1300 block of Hunter Boulevard, expecting to find four to five people who had been shot.

Instead, they found about 20 people gambling, detectives said.

Detectives believe the shooting call was bogus and may have been made by a disgruntled customer hoping to expose the operation.

They said they also found a total of about 30 illegal slot machines inside the home and $2,617 in cash.

A KSAT 12 News camera caught a quick glimpse of one of them as it left on the back of a pickup around 5:30 a.m.

Detectives said they removed the motherboards from all of the eight-liners as evidence, then destroyed all of the remaining machines.

They said although they did not make any arrests on site, they have identified three people as suspects and plan to obtain warrants for their arrests.
