Melissa Alvarado shot in head; juvenile lived at home where shooting occurred

SAN ANTONIO – A 15-year-old boy is charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of his 50-year-old female relative, police said.

The victim was identified as Melissa Alvarado, who lived at the home  with the teenager in the 500 block of General Krueger Boulevard, said Officer Alicia Pruneda, a spokeswoman with the San Antonio Police Department.

The boy called 911 just after 10 p.m. Wednesday and said he shot Alvarado, Pruneda said.

When officers arrived, they found the teen standing in front of the house, unarmed, and he was taken into custody without incident, Pruneda said.

When officers entered the home, they found Alvarado with a gunshot wound to the head, Pruneda said.

Another person was also inside the home at the time of the shooting but was not hurt.

A motive for the shooting is not currently known.

Police don't know how the teen got the gun, which was recovered.
