SAN ANTONIO – A 26-year-old man was fatally shot by a neighbor at a Southeast Side apartment complex early Sunday, according to his mother, who said she held her son in her arms after he was wounded.
Sebastian Robles was shot Sunday at the Reveria Apartments, where he lived with his mother, Audry Robles.
Audry said the 39-year-old suspect, whom she described as someone who had previously had a cordial relationship with Sebastian, knocked on their door shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday. Sebastian answered the door, but an argument followed after he closed it.
“Why are you knocking on the door? Not right now,” Audry recalled her son saying before closing the door.
Audry said that at some point the suspect went upstairs and fired a gun from a balcony toward the courtyard where Sebastian was.
She believes the first shot was intended to scare her son.
“He said, ‘Oh, don’t worry, Mom. I was just scaring him,’” Audry recalled. “And then my son went down.”
Audry said the suspect later came downstairs, touched Sebastian and appeared to realize he had shot him.
“He came down here, touched my son and said, ‘Oh, s---, I really shot him,’” she said.
Audry said her final moments with her son were spent holding him and telling him she loved him.
“Breathe, I love you, mama’s here,” she recalled telling Sebastian. “And I’m still here.”
The 39-year-old suspect, Terry Clark, has been arrested.
Neighbors at the apartment complex have since created a memorial for Sebastian in the courtyard.
Audry said her son was known for helping neighborhood children fix their bicycles and for being friendly and outgoing.
She also said Sebastian often encouraged others to forgive.
When asked whether she could forgive the person accused of killing her son, Audrey said she could, but that she would never forget what happened.
“I will forgive, but I cannot forget,” she said. “That is something I will have to remember for the rest of my life.”
Audry said she is trying to find peace in the belief that Sebastian is now reunited with her late husband.
Sebastian’s funeral is scheduled for next Wednesday.
