Barbecue plate sale for officer injured in June shooting raises more than $13K

Blood bank also set up to honor law enforcement

SAN ANTONIO – Saturday's big barbecue plate sale to raise funds for wounded Officer Julio Cavazos and his family raised more than $13,000.

Proceeds from the silent auction are still being tallied.

The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services set up a peer support event at Big Texas Ice House.

Cavazos’ wife works for the department, but the agency also has a link to law enforcement. Many of the special investigators used to work in the police force.

Along with honoring Cavazos, many participants were also offered the opportunity to donate blood in honor of law enforcement.
