Rey Saldana urges residents to report information in case of Rene Blancas Jr.

SAN ANTONIO – District 4 City Councilman Rey Saldana on Wednesday made a plea to the community to come forward with information into the shooting death of a 3-year-old boy.

Rene Blancas Jr. was shot and killed while he was riding in his parent's car Saturday near New Laredo Highway and Briggs, police said.

Saldana said anyone with information needs to call police.

"I want to live, like the rest of San Antonians, in a place where nobody gets away with the type of action that the perpetrator, in this case, is getting away with," he said. "So we want a call to action for anyone who has information or tips, and not let any attention get away from something as important as a murderer who is still out in our community."

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 210-224-7867.

Rene would have turned 4 years old Wednesday.

Instead of a birthday party, his parents will attend a vigil in their child's honor.
