First responders observe 9/11 with a Tower of the Americas climb Participants carry tags, photos of 343 first responders killed
SAN ANTONIO – In remembrance of the lives lost during the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11 2001, first responders climbed the stairs at the Tower of the Americas twice in downtown San Antonio Tuesday morning.
San Antonio firefighters and others honored the fallen firefighters and officers by wearing their full gear.
The first responders climbed the tower twice and exceeded the number of floors climbed by those on 9/11. The tribute is known as the San Antonio 110 tower climb.
Participants carried tags and photos of the 343 first responders killed.
The event was open to the public.
Thousands of 9/11 victims' relatives, survivors, rescuers and others gathered Tuesday at the World Trade Center in New York to remember the deadliest terror attack on American soil.
