Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas say they need volunteers

Organization needs all types of contributions to make its work happen

SAN ANTONIO – There are 1.8 million Girl Scouts across the country who through courage, confidence and character aim to make the world a better place.

But those millions of young girls can't achieve that goal without the help of adult volunteers. The Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas say they are crucially in need of volunteers.

“It's a gift of the heart when you volunteer and it's very rewarding,” Troop 714 co-leaders said.

She would know, she has been volunteering as a co-leader for her daughter's Girl Scouts troop at Blessed Sacrament Catholic School for almost four years. She says the Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas needs more parent, grandparent or family friend female volunteers. Without volunteers like Palmer, young ladies in Girl Scouts wouldn’t be able to live out their sisterhood.

Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas says you can volunteer even if you don't have a daughter in Girl Scouts -- and these spots aren't just for troop leaders -- they need cookie moms, event coordinators and social media managers.

“It's a sisterhood that you probably see even in sororities but you start it young and these girls will get to know each other throughout their life and always come back to the group and care for each other,” Palmer said.
