Grand jury indicts man in connection with fatal fire at Ingram Square Center

Emond Johnson, 39, faces five charges in fire that killed firefighter Scott Deem

SAN ANTONIO - A Bexar County grand jury has indicted a 39-year-old man in connection a fire that killed a San Antonio firefighter and injured two other firefighters.

The grand jury on Tuesday returned five indictments against Emond Johnson on charges of felony murder, arson resulting in death, two charges of arson and bodily injury and arson-building. 

Johnson is accused of setting the fire at Ingram Square Center on May 18 that claimed the life of firefighter Scott Deem.

Firefighters Brad Phipps and Robert Vasquez were injured in the blaze.

The fire also caused serious damage to several buildings at the strip center.

Johnson could face up to four life sentences if he's convicted on all charges.
