Parents of four young children killed in crash in Helotes, officials say

The children and the driver of the other vehicle were taken to University Hospital for injuries

HELOTES, Texas – The parents of four young children were killed in a two-vehicle crash in Helotes Sunday night, according to Helotes police.

The crash happened around 6:30 p.m., in the 12000 block of Bandera Road and Diamond K Trail.

Police said a van carrying a family of six, with two parents and four children between the ages of 2 and 16, cut across the front of a pickup truck, leading to the crash.

The parents were killed from the impact and the four children were taken to University Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, officials said.

The identities of their parents have not yet been released.

The driver of the truck, a female that’s believed to be 26 or 27, was also taken to University Hospital for further treatment.

The children told police they are from out of state and officials are currently working to notify their next of kin. Officers are also trying to contact friends of the family, who live in San Antonio.

Authorities said alcohol was not a factor in the crash and it is being ruled as an accident, pending further investigation.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office is also aiding in the crash response and the entire southbound lane is currently shut down. The closure is expected to last for another hour and a half.

This is a developing story and we’ll bring more details as they become available.
