Couple, dog escape as North Side home becomes engulfed in flames

Cause of fire still under investigation

SAN ANTONIO – A couple and their dog were able to escape safely as huge flames overtook their North Side home early Thursday morning.

The man who lived in the home, located in the 15100 block of Rock River Street, told San Antonio firefighters he heard a popping noise after 12:30 a.m., then realized it was on fire.

He, along with his wife and dog got out of the home safely.

Firefighters who arrived a short time later tried to battle the flames, which were erupting from all sides of the home.

In the end, however, the home and two cars in the garage were destroyed.

Although only a few feet separated that home from the others on either side of it, fire crews were able to keep the fire from spreading.

Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the fire.
