1 person dead, 1 wounded in shooting at car club meetup on Southwest Side, police say

Incident occurred just before 11 p.m. near Dunton Street, Afcoms Way

SAN ANTONIO – One person is dead, and another person was wounded during a shooting at a car club meetup on the city’s Southwest Side late Sunday night, according to San Antonio police.

The incident occurred just before 11 p.m. near the intersection of Dunton Street and Afcoms Way, not far from Quintana Road.

According to police, gunshots were fired during a large car meetup and the 18-year-old victim was found on the ground. That’s when, police say, another a man in his 40s acted as a good Samaritan and tried to help, but more gunshots were fired.

The second man was also wounded, but he managed to get into his truck and drive away to Cupples Road and General Hudnell, where he called for help. He was taken to by EMS to University Hospital where he’s believed to be stable. The teen found shot however, was taken to an area hospital, where he later died.

A preliminary police report said the victims were both at the intersection watching several cars “doing doughnuts” when the shots were fired.

So far, a motive for the shooting is not currently known. SAPD did not provide a description of a suspect.

The San Antonio Police Department, the San Antonio Fire Department and EMS all answered the call.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
