January brings discounts on home workout equipment

Consumer Reports finds treadmill, elliptical deals

If you kicked off the new year resolving to get healthier and exercise more, some January deals can help you meet your goals.

“Because January follows two months of heavy holiday sales, discounts tend to be a bit sparser overall. However, we typically see deals on health, fitness, and other resolution-related products,” said Consumer Reports’ Samantha Gordon.

Consumer Reports tracks prices on many of its top-tested products to see when they go on their deepest discounts. Here’s what they found for this month:

The Bowflex Treadmill 10 is as low as $1,699 at Best Buy. That’s $300 off.

The Schwinn 470 Elliptical is $400 off at Amazon. The sale price is $899.

If you need some help keeping yourself accountable, a new fitness tracker may help.

The Garmin Forerunner 35 is as low as $99 at Amazon and Walmart. It typically sells for between $132 and $170. This watch-based fitness tracker monitors heart, sleep and calories.

For even more features, step up to a smartwatch. The Apple Watch SE (40mm with GPS) is as low as $199 at Walmart. That’s $80 off.

Opting for an older model like this one is a great way to get an Apple watch for less.

Finally, track your progress with a new digital scale.

The Withings Body Bathroom scale is as low as $47.96 at Amazon. It measures in .1-pound increments and connects to tracking apps.

Consumers can expect to see things like large appliances and mattresses discounted around the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend.
