Off-duty SAPD officer charged with assault turns himself in to Medina County Sheriff’s Office, police say

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Police Department said one of its officers turned himself in to the Medina County Sheriff’s Office after being charged with an assault-related offense while off duty.

The department said in a news release that Cody Haegelin, assigned to SAPD’s SWAT Detail, has been charged with assault by choking or strangulation involving a family member.

According to the release, Haegelin turned himself in after an arrest warrant was issued for an off-duty offense that took place on Sept. 14.

Haegelin, who has been with the department for 14 years, has been placed on administrative duty, the release said.

According to a KSAT analysis, Haegelin is the sixth San Antonio police officer to face legal trouble in 2025.

SAPD said it is conducting an administrative investigation into Haegelin’s arrest.
