SAN ANTONIO – A third grader at Roosevelt Dual Language Academy received a hero’s welcome as her school community celebrated her return after a long battle with childhood cancer.
Students, teachers and staff gathered for a Falcon Victory Parade on Monday to honor Annie after she completed cancer treatment and returned to campus.

School leaders described the celebration as a symbol of courage, perseverance and hope.
Annie said encouragement from the people around her helped her keep going through treatment.
“Everybody kept saying, telling me that it was fine, we’ll get through this fast, and I believed them, so I just started, just kept going,” Annie said.
She also shared a message for other children going through cancer treatment: “Be brave and be confident in yourself.”
The celebration comes during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, observed each September to raise awareness about children facing cancer and the families supporting them.
Roosevelt Dual Language Academy also raised $530 for Big Love Cancer Care, a nonprofit that supports children and families during cancer treatment.
School leaders said the celebration was not only a welcome back for Annie, but also a reminder of the strength found in community support.
