One of the boys was burned on one of his hands, Paige said. KIII TV reported that the boys, 12, were trying to cook on the dunes.

Paige said it’s unknown why the boys were on the dunes and CCFD believes they were by themselves. It was ruled accidental, he said.

About 200 acres were affected by the fire. KIII reported that no structures were damaged.

Corpus Christi, Flour Bluff, Annaville, Bishop, Port Aransas, Aransas Pass and Ingleside fire departments, and Nueces County ESD 2 were among those that responded to the fire.
