SAN ANTONIO – Of the 2,443 suggestions sent to North East ISD, only 22 percent of submissions met the school board's criteria for name changes to Robert E. Lee High School.
NEISD opened an online submission form for the community to submit suggestions in the renaming of Robert E. Lee high School. The form was open from Sept. 19-25.

Among the thousands of submissions were Gregg Popovich, Adolf Hitler, Batman and Tim Duncan. However, submissions were required to be "idea(s) rather than a person," and the board asked that names be "wholesome and stand the test of time."
Only 542 submissions met the board's criteria.
"The District's intent was to publish the entire list of submissions, including those that did not meet the Board's criteria, on its website," NEISD spokesperson Aubrey Chancellor said in an email. "Unfortunately, many of the 1,901 submissions that did not meet criteria contained offensive and inappropriate references, such as profanity and racially charged statements. Since our website is readily available to all students and campuses, the District felt that posting them would not be appropriate."
