Three tips for planning a birthday party on a budget

SAN ANTONIO – It can be difficult to plan a child's birthday party without breaking the bank.

From sending out invites, to preparing food, planning activities and stuffing goodie bags, things can become overwhelming!

“We always want to make sure that we make their birthdays memorable,” said Lexy Ortiz from Children’s Lighthouse Learning Center on Bulverde Road. “But sometimes the costs can get kind of high.”

Ortiz demonstrated on SA Live how to use a little creativity to cut costs without cutting out the fun.

1. Invites - Digital Invites are easy and free! Ortiz recommends sites such as Evite or Paperless Post.

2. DIY Party Hats – You can make your own party hats with wrapping paper or something as simple as a paper plate (see video above). Ortiz says you can prep ahead of time or have the children make their own at the party.

3. Games & activities - Use simple items from around the house to create game stations. Some items you can choose are laundry baskets, place mats, tape, etc.
