Teal pumpkins making Halloween safer for kids with allergies

Teal Pumpkin Project suggests candy alternatives

SAN ANTONIO – Be on the lookout for teal pumpkins this Halloween. They indicate houses with nonfood treats for trick-or-treaters who have food allergies.

The Teal Pumpkin Project was started in 2014 as a national campaign by Food Allergy Research and Education or FARE.

For fliers you can print and display in your window click here.

Candy alternatives FARE suggests for trick-or-treaters:

  • Glow sticks
  • Pencils and fun erasers
  • Bubbles
  • Coins
  • Stickers
  • Bouncy balls
  • Vampire fangs
  • Finger puppets
  • Bead necklaces

FARE recommends avoiding moldable clay, which may contain wheat, and items that may contain latex.
