BGC Game of the Week Preview: Brandeis vs. O'Connor

5-0 Panthers and 4-1 Broncos prepare for a District 28-6A showdown

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Big Game in our Big Game Coverage in week 7 of the high school football season features the second-ranked team in the area - the undefeated O’Connor Panthers - squaring off against the fifth-ranked Brandeis Broncos, whose only loss this season came against Brennan two weeks ago. This neighborhood rivalry will decide who takes the lead in District 28-6A standings.

”They are 4-1 and we are 5-0,” said senior O’Connor offensive lineman Brannon Brown. “We’re both capable of winning district so far, so winning this game is huge for both teams and hopefully we come out on top.”

The O’Connor Panthers are coming off a program-best season in 2017, notching 13 straight wins before seeing their season end against Lake Travis in the playoffs. Now, they want to take the next step toward a first-ever state championship.

”Let’s go at it and see who the better team is, just straight up,” said Panthers talented junior quarterback David Dodd. ”They have a really good team, but we have a really good team as well. We’ll just see what happens.”

The Panthers did not play the Broncos during last year’s 13-game winning streak, but Brandeis is hoping to put an end to O’Connor’s current five-game winning streak.

”We’re prepared for this week,” Broncos senior linebacker Brent Malone said. ”I think as long as we stay locked in and keep motivating ourselves all week that we will be prepared for Friday.”

This battle between two of the top five teams in KSAT 12’s Top 12 will take place at Farris Stadium at 7:30 pm.

“They are a really good football team,” said Brandeis head football coach David Branscom. “Coach David Malesky has built an incredible program, so we’ve got all we can handle, but we are excited about the opportunity.”
